  • Hamilton Place
Perhaps the most architecturally sophisticated of Maury County's great houses, Lucius Junius Polk's "Hamilton Place" at Ashwood was based on a design by Palladio for the Villa Pisano, with an interior hallway based on Brunelleschi's design for the Hospital at Florence.  When Clark was growing up, it was the home of his childhood friend, John Whiteside; today, it is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gillham, who lovingly restored the landmark.
